If you have ever hung a poly tarp outside for any length of time, you have probably witnessed how quickly these can become ripped to shreds under strong wind conditions. Before long. the corner grommets tend to pull off followed by the interior grommets. One of the many benefits of heavy duty vinyl tarps is that they are much less affected by wind.
One of our customers in Thornhill Ontario sent us these videos of their tarps in "action".

"I wanted to thank you very much for your awesome tarp and service. We got it installed the day before 70km/hr winds swept through and a heavy snowfall and are so happy all is secure and effective!
I have included some pictures and videos you are free to use.
Thanks again and have a happy holidays!"
Notice the tarps are only fastened by about 6 grommets as well as being supported by a rope. Despite the strong winds, the tarp really doesn't move very much. This 20' x 20' tarp weighs about 55 pounds so it is much less affected by windy conditions than poly tarps, which would tend to weigh less than 10 pounds for a tarp this size.
That's not to say that it is a good idea to keep these tarps up in a hurricane. Large tarps which take the full force of the wind are exposed to tremendous stress so it is a good idea to take them down if the forecast calls for strong winds. It is also wise to make use of more grommets so that the force on any one grommet is not too great.
